Use the context to understand the definition of the phrasal verbs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>All the phrasal verbs are related to TRAVEL.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>\u2013 Hi Jim!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2013 Hey Rachel! How was your trip?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was pretty good. Thanks for asking. I really needed to get away.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2013 Australia is so far away, though. Did you have to stop over anywhere on your way?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We did, yes. We stopped over in Singapore for an hour. I was happy that the first flight got in on time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2013 That\u2019s really lucky! The last time I travelled, my flight was delayed. It took off 3 hours later than the scheduled time!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Oh no! I bet you were happy to get off that flight!<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2013 I was, yeah. And how was your hotel?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was beautiful. We checked in right on time and the service was lovely.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2013 I\u2019m glad!<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>So, what do you think the definitions of the phrasal verbs are?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Look at the definitions and examples to see if you were correct!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>To get away:<\/strong> To escape or leave. In this case, Rachel says that her holiday was \u201cgetting away\u201d (i.e., from work, stress, etc).<\/li>\n<li><strong>To stop over:<\/strong> In travel (usually flights), to stop in a city or country that is <em>not<\/em> the final destination. In this case, Rachel \u201cstopped over\u201d in Singapore on the way to Australia.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To get in:<\/strong> To arrive (a person, plane, train, bus, etc). Rachel was happy because she \u201cgot in\u201d or arrived on time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To get off:<\/strong> To exit or leave a vehicle. Jim was happy to \u201cget off\u201d or leave the airplane after such a bad flight.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To take off:<\/strong> When talking about travel, \u201cto take off\u201d is when the airplane leaves the ground.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To check in:<\/strong> To enter a hotel for the first time.
