{"id":542,"date":"2017-06-28T17:01:00","date_gmt":"2017-06-28T15:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/3.254.11.177:8081\/?p=542"},"modified":"2025-07-27T18:54:53","modified_gmt":"2025-07-27T16:54:53","slug":"practicar-listening-casa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.americanlanguage.es\/blog-aprender-ingles\/practicar-listening-casa","title":{"rendered":"C\u00f3mo practicar el listening TOEFL\u00ae fuera de clase"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"357\" data-end=\"712\">Esta entrega se enfoca en una serie de estrategias para practicar el <em data-start=\"426\" data-end=\"437\">listening<\/em> fuera de clase.<br data-start=\"453\" data-end=\"456\" \/>El foco de atenci\u00f3n es el uso de <strong data-start=\"489\" data-end=\"536\">recursos gratuitos, disponibles en internet<\/strong>, y que se pueden utilizar en aparatos m\u00f3viles (iPad, tablets, iPod, tel\u00e9fonos m\u00f3viles), para poder practicar el <em data-start=\"649\" data-end=\"660\">listening<\/em> inclusive en el metro y otros medios de transporte.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"714\" data-end=\"717\" \/>\n<p data-start=\"719\" data-end=\"1178\">As you probably already know by now <strong data-start=\"755\" data-end=\"775\">listening skills<\/strong> are among the most important skills for the TOEFL\u00ae because you have to listen on three of your four tests: <em data-start=\"883\" data-end=\"894\">Listening<\/em>, <em data-start=\"896\" data-end=\"906\">Speaking<\/em>, and <em data-start=\"912\" data-end=\"921\">Writing<\/em> tests.<br data-start=\"928\" data-end=\"931\" \/>Your teacher will try to give you ample listening practice in class, but you can also start practicing before and during your class.<br data-start=\"1063\" data-end=\"1066\" \/>This post will look at some ways to practice at home, or during your day-to-day life on the metro or in the car.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1180\" data-end=\"1183\" \/>\n<p data-start=\"1185\" data-end=\"1509\">For many people, their listening skill, they feel, is their weakest skill.<br data-start=\"1259\" data-end=\"1262\" \/>It should not be that way. Download your favorite podcast app<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1559\" data-end=\"1641\">All smartphones have a native app, but there are other apps like \u201cStitcher Radio\u201d.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1643\" data-end=\"1646\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"1648\" data-end=\"1689\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Once_you_have_an_app_on_your_phone\"><\/span>2. Once you have an app on your phone<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1691\" data-end=\"1795\">Open it and search for podcasts which you will then need to \u201cadd\u201d to your playlist.<br data-start=\"1774\" data-end=\"1777\" \/>I would recommend:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1797\" data-end=\"1985\">\n<li data-start=\"1797\" data-end=\"1862\">\n<p data-start=\"1799\" data-end=\"1862\">a) News podcasts like <em data-start=\"1821\" data-end=\"1838\">BBC Global News<\/em> or <em data-start=\"1842\" data-end=\"1860\">NPR News Summary<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1863\" data-end=\"1893\">\n<p data-start=\"1865\" data-end=\"1893\">b) Field-specific podcasts<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1894\" data-end=\"1985\">\n<p data-start=\"1896\" data-end=\"1985\">c) Podcasts from <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howstuffworks.com\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-start=\"1913\" data-end=\"1963\">HowStuffWorks.com<\/a> (a personal favorite)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1992\" data-end=\"2094\">If you do not have a smartphone, you can <strong data-start=\"2033\" data-end=\"2093\">stream most of these podcasts directly on their websites<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2096\" data-end=\"2355\">\n<li data-start=\"2096\" data-end=\"2173\">\n<p data-start=\"2098\" data-end=\"2173\">Go to <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-start=\"2104\" data-end=\"2134\">BBC.com<\/a>, click on \u201cRadio\u201d and go from there.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2174\" data-end=\"2262\">\n<p data-start=\"2176\" data-end=\"2262\"><a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-start=\"2176\" data-end=\"2206\">NPR.org<\/a> has a similar layout; click on \u201cPrograms\u201d at the top.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2263\" data-end=\"2355\">\n<p data-start=\"2265\" data-end=\"2355\">At <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howstuffworks.com\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-start=\"2268\" data-end=\"2318\">HowStuffWorks.com<\/a>, click on \u201cShows\u201d and go from there.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2357\" data-end=\"2487\">\n<p data-start=\"2359\" data-end=\"2487\">This is just a small sample of websites that I, as a teacher, use personally and with some classes.<br data-start=\"2458\" data-end=\"2461\" \/>There are <strong data-start=\"2473\" data-end=\"2486\">many more<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr data-start=\"2489\" data-end=\"2492\" \/>\n<p data-start=\"2494\" data-end=\"2934\">In addition, at <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ted.com\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-start=\"2510\" data-end=\"2540\">TED.com<\/a> you have access to <strong data-start=\"2560\" data-end=\"2596\">video talks about various topics<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"2597\" data-end=\"2600\" \/>They are interesting and educational, but it would probably be better to <strong data-start=\"2673\" data-end=\"2696\">NOT watch the video<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"2697\" data-end=\"2700\" \/>Watching a video makes things easier to follow and understand because the speaker uses gestures and facial expressions.<br data-start=\"2819\" data-end=\"2822\" \/>Listening to radio or podcasts will require you to <strong data-start=\"2873\" data-end=\"2892\">ACTUALLY listen<\/strong> and not be distracted by the performance.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2936\" data-end=\"2939\" \/>\n<p data-start=\"2941\" data-end=\"3303\">Students always ask me:<br data-start=\"2964\" data-end=\"2967\" \/><strong data-start=\"2967\" data-end=\"2993\">\u201cWhat about TV shows?\u201d<\/strong><br data-start=\"2993\" data-end=\"2996\" \/>TV shows in themselves are not bad, but <strong data-start=\"3036\" data-end=\"3115\">do not expect them to help you improve your listening skills for the TOEFL\u00ae<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"3116\" data-end=\"3119\" \/>Not only for the reason mentioned before, but also because the <strong data-start=\"3182\" data-end=\"3225\">language used tends to be more informal<\/strong> than the kind of language you will need to understand to do well on the test.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"3305\" data-end=\"3308\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"3310\" data-end=\"3353\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_should_you_use_podcasts_and_radio\"><\/span><em data-start=\"3313\" data-end=\"3353\">How should you use podcasts and radio?<\/em><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ol data-start=\"3360\" data-end=\"3815\">\n<li data-start=\"3360\" data-end=\"3529\">\n<p data-start=\"3363\" data-end=\"3529\"><strong data-start=\"3363\" data-end=\"3383\">Listen every day<\/strong>, not just passively while you play a game on your cell phone, but <strong data-start=\"3450\" data-end=\"3462\">actively<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"3463\" data-end=\"3466\" \/>You are not going to improve your listening through osmosis.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3531\" data-end=\"3633\">\n<p data-start=\"3534\" data-end=\"3633\">When you listen, <strong data-start=\"3551\" data-end=\"3565\">take notes<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"3566\" data-end=\"3569\" \/>Listen again and compare what you understood with your notes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3635\" data-end=\"3815\">\n<p data-start=\"3638\" data-end=\"3815\"><strong data-start=\"3638\" data-end=\"3656\">Don\u2019t give up!<\/strong><br data-start=\"3656\" data-end=\"3659\" \/>In the beginning it may seem like a daunting (stressful) task, but continue and you will see a gradual improvement as you continue to follow this advice.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Esta entrega se enfoca en una serie de estrategias para practicar el listening fuera de clase.
