Let\u2019s look at the different ways we can use\u00a0<em>miss<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0<em>lose<\/em>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 id=\"-lose-\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Lose\"><\/span><strong>Lose<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Normally we use the verb\u00a0<strong>lose<\/strong>\u00a0when we don\u2019t have something and we don\u2019t know where it is.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>For example:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cOh no! I think I\u00a0<em>lost<\/em>\u00a0my keys!\u201d<br \/>\n(I don\u2019t have my keys. Where are they?)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We also use it when we suffer a defeat or fail to win in a contest or a game:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>For example:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cWe played well, but we still\u00a0<em>lost<\/em>\u00a0the game.\u201d<br \/>\n<em>(We did NOT win the game.)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 id=\"-miss-\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Miss\"><\/span><strong>Miss<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>For something which happens, such as a bus leaving or an event, instead of\u00a0<em>lose<\/em>\u00a0we use\u00a0<em>miss<\/em>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>For example:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cI got delayed and\u00a0<em>missed<\/em>\u00a0my train.\u201d<br \/>\n(I know where my train is. I can see it leaving the station, but I\u2019m not on it.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was sick and\u00a0<em>missed<\/em>\u00a0the meeting.\u201d<br \/>\n(I know where the meeting is. It\u2019s at my office. I, however, did not attend.)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We also use\u00a0<em>miss<\/em>\u00a0when we fail to take advantage of an opportunity:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI\u00a0<em>missed<\/em>\u00a0my chance to get promoted at work.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 id=\"-don-t-forget-\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Dont_forget\"><\/span><strong>Don\u2019t forget!<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Another way to use\u00a0<strong>miss<\/strong>\u00a0is when we regret the absence or loss of a person or thing.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>For example:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cI\u00a0<em>miss<\/em>\u00a0my family back home.\u201d<br \/>\n<em>(I don\u2019t live at home. I am sad to be away from my family.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been raining all day. I\u00a0<em>miss<\/em>\u00a0not having a car anymore!\u201d<br \/>\n<em>(I had a car, but now I don\u2019t.
