I have three sisters.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Family<\/strong>\u00a0= our parents, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, grandparents, cousins, etc., and it is generally used as a\u00a0<strong>noun<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>ie: I have a big family. Where does your family live? Family is very important to me.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But, it can also be used as an\u00a0<strong>adjective<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>A\u00a0<strong>family<\/strong>\u00a0business, a\u00a0<strong>family<\/strong>\u00a0restaurant, a\u00a0<strong>family<\/strong>\u00a0reunion (when family gets together after a long time without seeing each other).<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 id=\"-check-out-this-common-mistake-\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Check_out_this_common_mistake\"><\/span>Check out this common mistake:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<blockquote><p>It is a familiar company. The grandfather is the boss and the employees are his grandchildren.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>INCORRECT!<\/strong>\u00a0This is a\u00a0<strong>FAMILY<\/strong>\u00a0company.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Something\u00a0<strong>familiar<\/strong>\u00a0is something you\u00a0<strong>know<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>ie:<\/em><br \/>\nHave you heard of the\u00a0<em>Tomatina<\/em>\u00a0festival?<br \/>\n\u2013 .. that sounds\u00a0<strong>familiar<\/strong>, yes. They throw tomatoes at each other, right?<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m going to the Filmoteca tonight. Do you want to come?<br \/>\n\u2013 The Filmoteca? What\u2019s that? I\u2019m not\u00a0<strong>familiar<\/strong>\u00a0with that place.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 id=\"-to-sum-up-\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"To_sum_up\"><\/span>To sum up:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Family<\/strong>\u00a0is\u00a0<em>a noun<\/em>\u00a0AND\u00a0<em>an adjective!<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Familiar<\/strong>\u00a0is something that you\u00a0<em>know<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0<em>have heard of<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Another way to say that you are or aren\u2019t familiar with something is:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>That\u00a0<em>rings<\/em>\u00a0a\u00a0<em>bell!<\/em>\u00a0(Yes, I am familiar with that. I have heard of that.)<\/p>\n<p>Hmm\u2026 that\u00a0<em>doesn\u2019t ring a bell.<\/em>\u00a0(No, I\u2019m not familiar with that.
